In 2012 and 2013 each year about 900 ha of pastoral land, affected by erosion were converted into forestry under the East Coast Forestry Program. Further plantings of about 300 ha are scheduled for 2014 & 2015.
We are not exclusively focusing on planting Radiata Pine, but we give alternative species sufficient space to prove that they are fitting well into our silvicultural philosophy.
In 2014, Waitangirua Forest, with about 350 ha of standing timber or mature timber stands under harvest, was consolidated to the forestry activities of the Station.
Waikura Joint Stations is planning to harvest mature timber-stands of about 230 ha over the next 5 years.
